I was trying to come up with around-the-house ways of insulating my wiring harness by the engine and I found some Bondo label fiberglass cloth. Do you guys think this would work well as heat insulator for the wires?
I could wrap it a few times and use some aluminum wire I found to secure it.
What say all of you?

Fiberglass cloth wouldnt be my first choice. I think you can get some heat wrapping pretty cheap at an auto parts store.... the kind of stuff they wrap exhaust pipes with, sorry I dont know what it's called

The only stuff like that I found said that is melted to the metal and cured with the heat. I do not want that happening with my wiring harness.

the fiberglass itself won't burn, but It won't necessarily insulate the wires from heat very much. Is it the sort of fiberglass cloth that looks like it's woven (called roving), or is it the kind that looks like the fiberglass version of particle board (matte)? Fiberglass can be a pain in the a$$. My dad owns a fiberglass business and I grew up working for him in the summers. Plus, it's really itchy.

I would maybe use the velcro-style stuff that Summit sells to place around dizzy wires that are routed over manifolds, etc.

Kirk threw some of this stuff on his LT1 to protect against the heat.

Pricey stuff from what I remember...IIRC, ~$60 a bundle (three sleeves, I think).

Sort of like this:

I use this $15 roll of heat tape from the same manufacturer, Thermo-Tec. You only need ~2ft.

You may be able to find it at your local speed shop that caters to drag racers or ricers.
