Is a double locked 100 Series rare?

approximately 20% of the USDM 98-99 cruisers were optioned with the rear locker , so yes they are rare and desireable
Where you pulling that stat? I ask just because when I was looking and just in general it seems way more rare to have one without it.

That's interesting, almost all 98-99's I see seem to have the rear locker, but that could be a regional thing?

Would you still recommend front/rear lockers?
I have a 2000 LC and have been considering F/R ARB lockers.
For a 1998-2000 yes since these specific ym has 2-pinion front differential, the arb air locking differential is a 4-pinion type making it better it terms of strength, reliability and longevity (still not fail-proof).

would get a full quote for parts and install and then decide if it’s worth it to you. They’re neat but I wouldn’t pay the $6-$8k it would cost a shop to do it.

I'd say it depends what you're trying to accomplish. I've pushed my generally stock 100 series with no lockers through a lot of trails. Trying to crawl over rocks and get a bit more technically than locking it up might help but it all depends on the trail / conditions / your goals ... Pretty cool to watch an Atrac 100 series out-wheel some fully locked rigs.
Every time I’ve been on a tough trail with unlocked 100s we have to pull or winch them up after watching them play rock bouncer.

Yea a little over $8K was the quote I got for front/rear. Thinking about just doing 1 for now. I like the idea of doing the front to beef up from a 2 pinion to 4 pinion setup but not sure if the rear locker would be more useful?

I wouldn’t consider doing lockers and keeping stock gearing. The regear is where the value is and the labor is the same.

Honestly a decent set of ATs, low psi, and the center lock will through anything you will want to do.

Thanks I appreciate the feedback. Like others have said I just need to get some time behind the wheel and really see what this thing is capable of. Likely more than I’m willing to put it through.
