As an urepentent Luddite, the "better system" than airbags I tout is called seat belts. My preference would be for a vehicle without airbags.

N.B.: I drive a safe, sane 25 miles per hour.
A very simple solution for you -- drive a 93 or 94 model year FZJ80. No air bags, no sodium azide fears.

Having one of each, my opinion for what it is worth, is they both have good and bad points,

1993
the good....

cloth interior- with a seat that goes back further...
bus trans,
r12 still will freeze yiou out even in 110f heat..
obd1 --easy to pull codes
no headgasket yet at 225k

Nothing really bad....execpt I dont like how the grill looks...

1997
the good

nice and quiet you can tell there is more sound deading
beautiful truck with the grill and black paint..
almost 10 years old and still gets compliments..

the bad
leather interior...numerous reasons..
lighter duty trans
head gasket
radiator
134a .. sucks in the desert......

If I could I would love to have a combo of the two, a black 97 with gray cloth, a 442 trans, r12 a/c, big radiator, and a 1hd turbo diesel while we are dreaming......

They are all great but I am partial to the 94's, no reason (except that's what I have! :) ). It's been great, but they are all tough as nails.

Actually, to be more precise it is the "late" 93 that is the best. I believe it is from may of 93 on. The "late" 93 is the only 80 with

1) 442 "bus" tranny
2) R134 AC standard
3) 2.2 kW super-duper starter

The best 80 is the one you happen to own....until you get a better one. Even then, I guess it is still the one you own :)

THE GOOD "Land cruiser" / THE BAD "****" THE UGLY " FJ C "

Don't forget the '93's have the best oil dipsticks, too
BTW my 93 (built May 93) has the R134a stuff and does blow quite cold.

I have a 93 also - how can you tell which of those you have?

Seriously?
what is this church? are we going to fight about who has the best 80 model like we fight in church about who has the best God?
I agree the year you have is the year to have and then buy the others and keep a stable of them and drive them and then come back and tell me. until then if you only have one we are all friends and it works better b/c we have enough fights with those Heep heads who think we are dumb to drive what we do.

(by the way i love my 91 its better than all of yours)

14years 250k++mi. Still runs and drives beautifully. :)
