Does anybody have experience with the FJ60 PS conversion vs a stock PS setup in an FJ40. Would it hurt the resale value of an 82 FJ40 and does it drive better?
I am installing an 2.5 inch OME medium lift and running 12-15 BFG's on stock wheels widened to 8" truck will only be lightly wheeled.
Thanks in advance.

As much as I like minitruck PS (or stock FJ40 PS), it sounds like you're running wide tires, and would be better off with a different solution. What are 12-15 BFGs? - do you mean 33x12.5-15s?

The Iron Pig 60 set up is a good system, I have seen a few on the trails. It will have less pivot points and potential for slop than a stock FJ40 set up. As far as value goes, unless your 40 is completely stock and pristine, I don't think it would have any effect on value.

It is mostly stock but not a numbers matching collector car but the chassis is rust free and the body has a perfect cowl and a Pilgrim tub. It will have an H55f with a Currie
9 inch with a high pinion third. Also an 86 2F other than that and the widened wheels, stock.
Once it's back together I was considering a 2FE. And yes to SteveH 33x12.5-15.

I run stock FJ40 PS on my SOA rig on 35's right now. I will be installing the FJ60 steering here shortly because I am moving up to 37's.

If it were my truck and I was running 33's, I would keep the stock 40 steering. Yes it has a lot of linkages and tends to get a bit sloppy, but it is stock FJ40 PS and chicks dig that.

That being said, you have already swapped out some stock stuff for things like the currie 9 etc... So I don't think you will hurt the resale value (If you're worried about resale value, sell it and get out now :princess:). In fact, if it is done cleanly (like by one of the guys at IPOR or another professional Land Cruiser shop, it would certainly not hurt the resale value to the right buyer. it seems that any PS swap helps with the appeal of a 'Cruiser.

The 60 setup is clean and simple and you could almost cover the cost of the swap with the sale of your FJ40 PS box and cooler :grinpimp:

Paid $900 for the IPOR set up and already sold the stock setup for $650. I was just having some reservations about cutting the shock towers and drilling the frame. As far as getting out , in for a penny in for $25k

Yep, I hear ya.

I just bought the plate last week and am excited to get to work.

Have you thought about swapping for the ford shock towers while your at it? You can save the stock towers if you want to put them back some day if you miss them.

What Stumps said! I started cutting out my shock tower and didn't like cutting that much out and how weak it looked once I got it clearanced enough for the shaft. Ended up going with the ford tower and it works out much better.
