Changing out the Thermostat and I figured I'd address the leaky valve cover gasket while I have a little extra space.
I noticed that the copper oil line coming up to the valve train has a little washer looking thing on it, and my first instinct is to slide it down to act as an isolator so the line doesn't rub on the inside of the hole coming up from below.
At the risk of sounding crude, should I just poke it in with my finger?
Maybe pictures speak better. Yeah, I run a clean machine.

Is this on an F motor? I have never seen one of those before.

my impression

after five f engine rebuilds, my impression is that is to isolate the tubing so it does not wear in the head. But, someone shomewhere in the past told me that it will keep the oil line from getting kinked when hooking it up to the valve/rocker tree/train. that's about all i know about it.

It doesn't seem big enough to plug the hole, and it's tight enough on the line that it won't drop down further, so maybe I'll just shove it down in there.
