Guys I have noticed a thread re the Interior fan but could not find it (Sorry to start another thread)

But my 200 has just started to develop a fan blade rubbing noise in the dashboard somewhere above the glove box in my vehicle.

I called my dealer service department who advised that it's possible that a leaf is caught inside the fan and I should remove the fan and the said leaf.

I removed the fan and no leaf or any material in there at all.

So on the phone again to the service department and explained that the noise happens occasionally only driving over corrugated roads and when breaking to a full stop or when turning the vehicle off it winds down for a second or two.

I was advised that there have been quite a number of fan failures lately and that a replacement fan would be available at my next service which is 70,000 kms ( Currently she is about to clock over 69,000 km)

I was assured that it's a warranty claim.

I'm interested to know how many other members have faulty fans as it appears that vehicles aged 80-100,000 km the noise starts to begin.

This is an Australian spec vehicle 2010 Build VX TTD

Cheers
Ian

My 200 is nearing 65,000 kms no sounds at all. did you manage to get a picture of the fan and where it's mounted, could be something is loose and moves towards the fan or the fan is not seated properly if it is getting affected by movement as well.

OPen your glove box, remove cabin air fliter, set your AC to open vent. And see if you can hear something. Drive with the glove box open and cabin filter box open and see if you can locate the sound.

next step would be open hood. Just under the windsheild is a large plastic cover that spans the width of the car, remove that. Underneath on the passenger side you will find the air intake vents for your cabin. Visually inspect for foreign objects. You can do more digging from here, but I dont want to recommend anything until you've pin pointed the source.

Our 2009 US-spec LC's blower motor failed at 2 years, 22k miles and was obviously replaced under warranty.

$250 part, 4 hrs labour (part of the dash, mostly glove box, needs to come out).

Your fan is dying, probably bad bearings. Mine would whine in the winter on cold start-ups and grind at a low annoying rate other times. I had it replaced around 75,000 kms.

It's not leaves or your filter, it's your fan...have them change it if it's under warranty, don't let them talk you out of it!

I know that sound well, had a couple fans die over the years... that is a really annoying sound... I got the same thing going on in my fj62 right now, I gotta rip it outta the dash and replace it soon...

Yep, have checked with glove box open and pulled out the cabin filter ( through back of glove box ) , it is definitely fan failure.

I understand it to be the bottom bearing in the fan assembly seized.

Being a plastic housing the bearing spun in the housing.

Have been quoted by Cost $580 and ten minutes to swap over by Auto Elec.

Will now push Toyota for warranty claim

Regards

Good luck...they should honor it.

Has anyone got a PN for the interior fan? (Mine failed 10,000km under warranty & 5mths out of warranty)
I was just quoted $680 + labour in Australia by the worst Toyota service department I have ever dealt with -they didn't bolt the brake calipers up after the last service.

I have a friend going to the states next week and will pick it up.

Check the couple of members on this forum who work in the parts department of some dealers: beno, Sam Stewart, are two I know of.

I've also used Camelback Toyota in AZ who used to be a supporting vendor. Looks like they no longer are but still have good prices online.

Many online dealers are selling the blower motor for about $125 (assuming the US and Australia motors are the same).

thanks fellas, thats exactly what I was looking for.
once I have the replacement blower in my hands, I'll have a crack at replacing the original bearings first.

looks like you just saved me some $$$$$$$$$$$

thanks again
