Just ran across this interesting oil filter study comparing a OEM Toyota oil filter with equivalents from other manufacturers. The author does note that this is from 1995, and that improvements may have been made to the filters since then...but interesting anyway.

That is interesting!! I've always been of the impression that the Toyota filters are at least average if not better than average.
I'll keep using Fleetgard and Donaldson thanks!! They are cheaper and by the looks of it probably better since you can't get much worse.

That's what I thought too, Charles. I was very surprised that in this 1995 study, FRAM (cringe) was better than OEM Toyota. I don't know how much oil filters have changed in 11 years...but I bet FRAM hasn't changed all that much.

Maybe we should do our own study.
I can go buy every name brand filter, and we can do our own study.

In fact, I just might do that.........
You guy can donate after the fact if you like to help cover costs.

Cheers,
Nick

EDIT: Just ordered a 3B/13BT filter from Toyota. Common filter.
Its also know as a PH8A
I will go buy most name brands of filters and compare, inside and out.
I have no way of comparing the filtering quality, other than optically and amount of filtering material present.
I can't measure partical size, minutes to plug, etc....
