intake/exhaust manifold madness!!

I need some help from the brain trust today. Shown below is the manifolds from my FJ45LPB. The engine is a early 2F model, but I cannot identify the manifold.

Also can you see where the holes are no longer round where the manifild attaches to the block. What should I do?

a) grind the holes so that I can get the bolt through to attach it to the block?

b) attach the manifod to the block via the center holes, then force the outside exhaust flange down so that the holes line up.

c) find a new manifold?

Everything in the picture is roughly 1972 vintage.

The manifold holes are gonna need hogged out w/ a large drill bit so they will:
a. Go on the larger 2F studs.
b. Be round to go on the studs & bolts.

It can be done, but do watch out for the drill catching and spraining a wrist.
 
F engine intake and exhaust manifold....

Marv sells "step-down" studs....Have used them in the past for 2F/F stuff...

All the step down studs currently on it are stripped so I bought some 12mmX1.25 bolts to use instead. The fun part is that I have to drill out one of the studs that is broke.

So it is indeed a F intake...grr...You can see in the one photo where I had a leak with all the carbon..Should I upgrade to the 2F? Will that carb and insulator work?
 
It would be easier to install a good 79 and later 2F intake and exhaust manifold, and the insulator and carb will work, you will need to swap the carb studs however, and the carb will sit a little lower with the 2F manifold set up, than it did with the F intake set up, which if you have a throttle cable, will be no biggie...and if you have mechanical linkage, is something that you can adjust and make work smoothly....

The best way to deal with the broken stud is to weld a nut over the broken stud and then just turn it out. It is fast and it always works.

You might want to mill the manifolds to true hte surface so that it will seal better.
 
Yep, I noticed the leak. You can resurface it at a machine shop to get the warpness out of it. They may even be able to mill out the irregular holes.

I have an extra manifold/intake that needs a little resufacing, make me an offer if you want it. It's the 79 and up vintage in case you are wondering.

I tried welding a nut and it kept breaking loose...almost like it was a different metal..

what kind of voltage and wire speed are you using to do that?
 
1. There are other sources if you decide to go with a new set of stepped studs.;)

2. I would make the call on where to grind based on multiple test-fittings of the manifold to the old studs [which I would be less inclined to worry about damaging during the test fittings.

3. I would NOT force the end of the manifold down, if that is what it took

4. I would use the felpro gasket that Jim C. and Mark W. recently referred to in a different post. Don't remember the # tho.

5. While the late model 2F manifold does have the edge as far as not warping as easily, you will also need to round up a late model collector-headpipe to fit it, which is a whole other PITA you WON'T have to deal with if you fix what you have.
