My '79 FJ40 has rancho springs and poly bushings, but non-greasable pins. I would like to install greasable ones, but I'm not sure how to tell what pins to get.

Can someone tell me how to determine what size I need?

Aslo, is there a write-up somewhere on how to install these things?

Thanks!

If yours has two bolt holes that mount the tab to the frame hanger, then you need the 16mm, earlier style.

If yours has one bolt hole that mounts the tab to the frame hanger, then you need the 18mm, later style.

I would bet that you have the earlier style, since it was late 80 that the change happened...

They should not be that hard to remove, since someone installed new suspension at one time...

support the frame and axle, do one side at a time...no biggie man...

Good luck!

Ummmm, not 15mm ?

8/80' and older FJ40's will use the 15mm single bolt spring pins...

E-7/80' FJ40's had 15mm ID, 25mm OD bushings
8/80'-90' FJ40/60/62 had 18mm ID, 35mm OD bushings

FJ55's are just an imbreed... :D

Would both of the pins on a spring be the same size?

Thanks for the help!

Front and rear? Then yes, they are... In fact the shackles pins are the same size too, except on aftermarket spring applications.

Not trying to steal the post, but on a related topic-

What kind of grease are you guys using for your greasable pins (white lithium?). Also, where are you purchasing it? (nobody knows in my town).

Thanks.

Moly...

5P-0960 Caterpillar part number...

I have a complete set of greasable pins and with poly bushings for a 76Fj40..

I measured them this morning and they are 14mm....

are they going to be too loose? THey seem alittle sloppy in teh uninstalled bushing.

So they are probably a 9/16"?

Can't say that they won't work...

You don't want sloppy 'cause it will wear the bushings fast.
