Installing a new City Racer power steering pump. Have the bracket off the truck. The new pump will not fit in the bracket; just a hair too wide. Original pump slides right back into the bracket. Should I just file a little material off both sides of the City Racer pump until it will slide into the bracket? Tried a little lube. Really think it is just a little too wide? Any other tricks before shaving metal?

Agree it was obvious what needed to be done. After trying every possible way to work the pump back in the bracket, simply remove material off with a file on either end of the pump base until it would fit. Probably had to remove a total of 1/16th or slightly less of material. Though not OEM, the City Racer pump looks identical and attractive at half the price. Hopefully it brings another 37 years of service like the original.
