INSTALLING A SUPERCHARGER… AT 239k MILES… IN 2023.

Allow me to preface this by saying it has been a long, long journey to get to this point. Without this amazing community of 80 series owners and supercharger owners I would have been dead on the water with an incomplete kit. The freely volunteered advice, part numbers, and personal reference photos have proven invaluable. I hope that I can only continue to help others as they have helped me. 1. These first photos are of the case as it was delivered to me. Fairly good condition. One or more of the studs that secure the plenum to the case are bent and will need to be replaced. The rotors spin smooth from what I can tell. This is my first supercharger so I’m learning as I go.

Throttle body adapter and vacuum. The threads will need to be chased And mating surfaces cleaned.

packed and shipped the sc to Jon Bond Perfornance last week. There is currently a 2 month backlog on rebuilds. easy online process. Fill out the form then print and include with your package. I decided to call to make the work appointment.

The plumbing and vacuum kit I received with the supercharger was essentially unusable. Parts were missing, the incorrect size or not even included in the original kit.
Home Depot to the rescue.
In the installation manual the rubber lined metal clamps are referred to as Adel clamps.
The continental spring tensioner was sourced from rock auto.

The new throttle body gasket arrived today.

I completed my supercharger install at the end of October 2022. In November, I drove 7 hours to Windrock TN to hit the trails. I didn't have any issues with the supercharger but some nuts/bolts became loose and my brake sensor switch was out of adjustment.

at 239k are you doing any engine work? i assume the headgasket was already done. but anything else internal? mostly i'm interested in what should be done before throwing boost at a motor with miles on it.

i've seen your posts on instagram, so i know you've thrown a ton of parts and labor at other parts of the truck. keep it up!

I bought my rig in 2010 with 92000 miles and a TRD super charger that was put on at 50000 with a new head gasket. I see redline almost daily, and I tow occasionally. I now have 258000 on the rig and it still runs fine. Only maintenance on the S C was new front bearings, seal, and oil because the seal was wheeling. I also installed a 2.8" pulley about 5 years ago. Makes a little over 8# of boost. I have lost the drive belt twice due to pulley bearing failures, both times on the trail, so I cleaned up the mess and drove home. No big deal. It drives about like a 3fe rig on the highway. 8# boost is really nothing for the 1fz. The Aussies are turboing these at 20-30# without a rebuild sometimes and they hold up quite well.

Is that a Toyota supercharger or aftermarket? I heard that a limited number of supercharged 80's where build by Toyota.

Not a Toyota built product. Blower is an Eaton m90/mp90. IIRC it was designed by TRD USA and it was magnuson that was chosen to supply parts and develope the kit. It was then marketed under the Kazuma label for a period by TRD. From thread below the unit was not developed until 2000, 3 years after state side 80 series production ended.

Factory installed supercharger?

I've searched and couldn't find anything. Were all TRD superchargers added on at a dealer once they arrived/aftermarket here or did any get factory installed?

Diesel? I don't understand. Some people neglect to replace the rear supercharger bearings. It can be pretty catastrophic to the supercharger once they go bad. It will damage the impellers. Did you think I meant main bearings or something?

To my knowledge it’s a TRD supercharger. This version came after the Kazuma, but before the Magneson version. I could be wrong.

As far as I know, yes. There is one coolant hose that I’m missing I think.
