3b injector removal question

Hi guys,

I have a donor bj42 (2/84) that I am transfering my bits over to from a rusted bj42 (3/84).

The injectors on my previously running 3b were just reconditioned at the last service (less than 200km's ago).

The 3b on the donor vehicle has had the top and bottom ends rebuilt but as far as I can tell no work has been done to the injector pump. I also notice that there is a leak around the #3 injector.

I am contemplating swaping the injectors over to 1) start of with good injectors knowing they have just been serviced and 2) attempt to fix the leak by replacing the injectors with known good ones (i am hoping like hell the thread hasn't been damaged to cause the leak)..

Is this a relatively easy job to do by a home mechanic? are any special tools required? is it just a matter of undo-ing all injectors lifting them out and swaping them over?

Also, would the fact that an injector is leaking contribute to excessive black smoke when under load? When i drove it interstate to get it home, as soon as there was significant load on the engine, black smoke poured out of the exhaust, if you lifted off the skinny pedal slightly until it was no longer smoking it would still maintain the same speed. there is no smoke when rev'ing and no load, or at start up.

neither vehicle is in a condition to be driven to my mechanics to get this done so I would like to try and do this at home, but not if there is a chance of damaging either engine..

any feedback is appreciated.

thanks.

Changing injectors is not much harder than a spark plug. The only thing I would advise is to have the proper spanners.
There is a type of ring spanner that fits over the injector lines to undo the trunnions or use 2 open enders.

To get the injectors out ,use a suitable tube socket.

The leak may maybe from a bad injector seat or not tight.

An injector leak would cause light grey/white smoke normally.
It may need the fuel turned down on the pump or have a bad spray pattern on the injectors(are these the new ones?).
Bad air filter can also cause black smoke as it starves the engine of air.
