Hi Folks:

I just added a set of rear D2XL OME leaves and I am concered that the bottom leaf is now only supported by the centering pin and the compression of the spring pack by the U-Bolts. Is this normal as it is no longer in the U-Channel.

:eek:Will it move on the Horiz. Axis

Thanks

Mark

You are fine. I will take some pictures tonight of mine. I do have some aluminum block that slide on the u-bolts that came with my OME kit way back when I did it. You can have them if you like. I have the flip kit on mine and the u-bolts side closer to the spring pack on both sides. I took out the metal u-channel and rubber pads and used the OME spacer that fits over the top of the centering pin to align it with the bigger hole in the axle.

It may turn side to side a bit but it shouldn't be a problem, my packs (and most) look just like that.

Here some pictures with my flip kit. You can see the top of the metal spacer around the centering bolt.

You have a couple of options...

1. Remove the spring isolator (or "U-Channel" as you call it) and install some center bolt spacers to accomodate the small OD spring pin head and large ID axle spring perch on later 60's.

2. Install the aluminum blocks as decribed by NorcalFJ60. This will be the most effective in preventing fanning of the springs, but rarely is this the route I personally go with, it just doesn't seem to be needed.

Realistically you could run it as is and see if it does give you any issues, I've seen plenty of them like that that never move a bit, in fact it looks like even before you added the additional-leaf, your lowest spring was likely out of the isolator. If they do "fan" on you, you can smack them back into postion and double check the torque on your ubolts. If you want to get rid of the isolators (often they are falling apart), let me know and I can get you some spacers.

Did you start with heavy or medium rear springs?

NoCal,

It looks like you left off the Spring Isolator Retainer (U-channel) when you installed the U-bolt flip kit... Is that what's recommended?

I'm asking because I've got the OME's on the way (thanks, Kurt), but the lower mounting plates, and lower shock mounting pins, are pretty much eaten up, as well as the isolator (U-channel) retainer. So the Flip kit might be the way to go... ?

Is there any consensus on running without the isolators?

That is want was recommended awhile back to go without the u-channel or rubber pads. You just need a spacer to go around the centering pint to center it in the bigger hole in the axle. Read your Kurt's previous post again. You could still use the stock u-bolts and hardware I think you would just still need the spacers without the u-channel piece.
