Hey everyone,

Summer is coming for me up here in the PNW and I’m trying to get my 60 running in tip top shape.

I have an 82 FJ60 with the original 2F that has 154k miles. Everything runs good and there are no fluid leaks etc.

However, I’ve been having inconsistent idles issues. I’ll adjust the idle screw so it idles around 800-900 rpm when warmed up. Then I drive around a bit and then I’ll push clutch in and it will die.

So I adjust it up to about 1,000-1,100rpm and it idles between that and 900. It will drop to 900 sometimes but then go back up to 1,000 randomly.

Then if I turn off and start it again it will idle like around 1,700rpm consistently as I’m driving around and coming to a stop it has a high idle.

I really don’t know where to start and I just wanted to ask you all if you have had any experience like this and where can I start with the diagnosis. Thanks in advance!

Could be a gummed up carburetor. If the carburetor has never been rebuilt, it’s way way past due even if it’s not the culprit.
