So she is finally at the paint shop!! :bounce:

Not without some drama though! All the body work has been done by my uncle, who has done a good job just a really really really slow job! Bought the truck back in Feb out of Reno and this is what it looked like:

Sorry for the triple posts I couldn't get it to work right.

So its been 110 degrees up in Idaho lately. Today they masked it all off and tomorrow around 6am the paint guy will come in and paint the top. Due to my uncle messing up a bit and using to much clear on the door insides there isn't enough clear to cover the whole truck. Originally it was supposed to be all white. Its a color called Mack White. Since we don't have enough clear we had to improvise. The top of the truck will now be painted black as well as the A, B, & C pillars. This way we can use a different paint and different clear to make everything match. Should be fine, but a bit hot in the summer! White paint should be laid down on Wed morning.

Hoping to have the truck here in california this weekend. I have waited to long for this! lol:bang:

Lookin good, glad you are this much closer. Why the dilemma with the clear, is it not available anymore? Seems a drastic change of plans solely based off of the clear. Good luck, keep us posted!

I'm def not a paint guy, but from what I understand certain paints are formulated with the clear. I have a limited window of time to get the truck painted for the price I was quoted. Not enough time to order more clear and have it there on time.

Not a big deal really. I have a set of black rims, 35x12.50 Cooper STT, and plans drawn up for a black F/R bumpers, and roof rack. It will all tie in in the end.

Black roof is the opposite of what is needed. Many cruisers have white roofs because white reflects (rather than absorbs and radiates) heat...heat that will be imparted on the driver and passengers. Hell, if anything, leave the roof undone and roll-on rhino line it some bright color (white doesn't exist to my knowledge as it tends to yellow)

We are putting a black roof rack up there already so it won't impair things to much. I have lived with black cars my whole life. Other than cleaning black the difference in temp is nominal.

Black on white will look great, especially with black rims. Are you planning on tinting as well? De-chroming? Should look pretty killer. Looking forward to the final result.

Thanks glad someone else can see my final vision too! She is already de-chromed. Black rims, black bumpers and roof rack. Possibly a light tint. Its California you can't go to dark.

Nice to see this finally getting some work on here! Was wondering what the status was on this. Nice truck that you stole from us up here in Reno/Carson. Def post some pics once she is painted so we can see what she looks like.. And if I remember correctly, in CA the Drivers/Passenger windows have to be no more than 45% tint, backs can be no more than 85% (limo)... Could be wrong though, trying to remember from back in my ricer days.

Long live the 60's

GREETINGS FIREPHIL,
I can totally relate to what it feels like for a long wait for a paint job !
Keep Inspired my friend.

Yea I actually got pretty lucky with this truck. Very little rust, SOA, SBC. Def needed some suspension work and the gearing is different. Interior is pretty good though.

Truck should be down here in cali this weekend or early next week. Then the real work begins! lol

As for the tinting- you can't have anything on the front windows and minimal on everything else. I wonder since its registered in Idaho if I can get away with more :hmm:

Thanks Bouncy! Its been a waiting game with a lot of setbacks. Slowly inching closer and closer though

Well... Update! How did the paint turn out and where are the pics?

So have you ever worked with 55-70y/o computer illiterate guys before? They are crazy meticulous on everything just slow as snails riding on a turtle. The few pictures I do have from them are a miracle in themselves!

Looks like the expected arrival date is this Thurs. Need to take her to the tire shop to get the new tires and rims mounted (those 30x9.5 are def not cutting it). if everything goes right I should have pictures by this weekend.

And as I posted that I got a call from my Body guy saying he needs another week. Apparently the paint looks good, but it is somewhat crystallized? I don't know much about paint. They want to spend another week color sanding it.

I'm beginning to think someone stole the truck or wrecked it and they just don't want to tell me!! Hate when deadlines get pushed back repeatedly.

I would drop by for a surprise inspection....sounds like they are buying time to fix something they messed up....while there ask them to show and explain.

Heres the deal - I live in California and the truck is in Idaho at the moment. The guys working on my truck are actually family members that do body work.

So you see its not easy to just drop by and rattle their cage. Also, since it is family and they gave me a phenomenal deal I can't treat them the same way as if it was a business stringing me along. Crappy situation actually.

This is a toy and not a DD so I'm in really bad shape, but I am the president of a 4x4 club (not dropping names without permission) and its hard to be the pres without a rig to lead the rides!!

Just have to ride this one out. I got myself into this position in the first place. Cheap, good, and fast don't ever really go together!

That would make it hard...

I feel you. When I committed to purchasing my latest 60, I trusted the guy due to character references from a friend of my wife's and having driven another 60 the guy had sold to a friend a couple years back. I agreed upon a price, gave the guy a rather large deposit and had him mount some new shackles and new tires that I had shipped directly to him before I went to pick it up. Long story short, it's a good truck but I feel like I overpaid for it (given it's cosmetic condition and he reluctance to include parts from his graveyard) to the tune of about $1250-$1500...and there was really no realistic way to either back out or renegotiate. I had already extended the trust.
