Fact is I'm just being cheap here. I'm in want of a small basic open utility trailer, perhaps 5 x 8, single axle.

I've seen all sorts of plans for sale on ebay and really don't think they're needed but would still would like to look at some before going into build mode.

Have any plans handy you wouldn't mind sharing???

Order a catalog - there is a lot of great stuff in it. Good prices too, but factor in the shipping because that will eat you alive if you order heavy steel parts.

One good approach is to visit a bunch of trailer stores with tape measure and notebook in hand.

Are you really sure you want to build your own? A basic brakeless 5x8 open steel trailer is pretty cheap, probably US$900 or less, and you won't save all that much money by building it yourself, unless you have a good source for steel, axle and components.

A home built special-use trailer makes more sense to me than a home built plain jane utility model.
