Hey all, in the market for a 200, 08-14 is about my price range, have had 2 100’s prior so I’m familiar with those trucks and the quirks. Is there anything with the 200’s to be on the look out for specifically? Trucks look like mikes range of 150k what I’m finding for these years. Any advice on things you wish you knew when purchased etc? Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

I bought my 08 model 6 years ago from my time here in the forums and my own personal experience I've only seen 2 common failures on the 200 the radiator issue (you'll find a long thread in here on the issue) mine was replaced around 100K and my starter at 150K with the smaller revised version. There have been no other surprises or failures I've run across. I've owned LC's for 20 + years I've enjoyed every single one of them but the 200 has been a favorite with the V8 and size its been great. I like it so much I'm waiting for the market to come back to its senses and buy my wife one. I came from DD a built 80 for 10 yrs to a built Taco for a short period (was too small for my needs) and had a 2nd Dodge 2500 diesel for tow duties. My 200 took over DD and the tow duties and never looked back. Find one that was maintained and your good to go, good luck on your shopping.

Appreciate it. Yes that’s all the reasons I’m hopping out of the 100 and up to the 200. Radiator and starter will be on my radar. Thanks!

Go to post #3 in the forum FAQs for some initial ideas on buying.

You'll get some pricing ideas in this forum classified thread

It’s an amazing vehicle.

Be prepared to pay a premium for it as it’s value is at an all time high.

Be prepared for crappy gas mileage.

Be prepared to want to invest a ton of side money upgrading little things here and there.

You’ll be 100% satisfied. It’s sporty, luxury, power, precision, and a tank all in one

I’m starting to see what I think are prices coming down some. I see a lot of reduced prices and even more classified. Hoping this slowly corrects itself. I’m in CT but look nationwide. Let’s hope the gas prices and time corrects the inflated Toyota market.

My experience is I bought sight unseen from texas, one owner, good records, and no accidents. I paid 30k OTD. Starter went bad at the dealer and was replaced. I have done: radiator, water pump, pulleys/belt, brakes and rotors, and new tires. I feel all that maintenance can be expect by 150k Miles. If it’s rust free and has good service records everything else is pretty simple to baseline.

I’d love to be out the door at 30k. What year was that?

2008. Forgot to add I’ve replaced the suspension with fresh take offs from Eric in Indy, replace a lot of the speakers, all fluids are fresh, and spark plugs. I’m probably into it 30k + 3k in required maintenance and 3k in not so required maintenance / upgrades. I’d try to find something with no rust in the low 30k range and know you could have 2-3k in maintenance.

The one thing I wouldn't call it is "sporty". It's not sporty in the slightest. It's a body on frame truck and has lots of other good points, sporty not being one of them

It's pretty damn sporty compared to an FJ60 or a 22r hilux :hillbilly:

It has 400 horsepower and 400lbs of torque.

I can smoke a ton of high school kids off the red light or on the highway lol 😂

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is places to look for rust. The first check for me would be the KDSS valve. My first 200 series was a 2011 with 98k and the KDSS valve was completely gone. I was going to lift the truck but I realized I would need to replace this system as well and decided to hold off. Another area that rust really bad is the rear bumper frame, check the hitch that is closer to the spare tire.

Also, pay attention to trucks that have been under coated with rubber spray. I've seen a few dealerships use the rubber coating the hide the rust. If you find one like this just poke a few areas to see if the frame is solid. If they used a oil based under coating its much easier to see the problem areas.

That's nice. My 30 year old VW can smoke it. It's a truck, it's not a sports car. It's not even sporty compared to my wifes Cayenne Diesel.

After driving a sequoia and tundra for the last 8 years, to me the LC is much more fun to drive. Maybe because it’s my intake and exhaust combo with it but I love it and consider it much more sporty than those two and that’s my opinion which we can have.

I feel like I’m driving Batman’s tumbler. A 6000lb beast that can also fly.

I also feel like its a rocket ship tank and fun to drive comparing it to all the other LC's and Toys its the first cruiser I've owned where I don't say it could use more power. Its not my old weekend racer a 500 WHP Mitsubishi Evo but very happy with it.

I have an '08 that my wife uses as daily driver. I proactively replaced the radiator and the starter. It has been a pretty solid truck. Land Cruisers are built to run forever.

Look around, get the best one you can, don't be overly concerned about the odometer, and avoid rust-buckets. If you are looking at one that is far away from you, insist on the seller sending you a thousand gory close-up pics of the underside. Rust is the devil.
