Went to change rear axle seals today - should be a simple job. Not if I’m doing it. The pinion shaft pit moved a little then was difficult. I thought it was the washer catching, so I turned it harder.
Now that it’s broken, I am kinda hosed.
Did the lion shaft bind against it at that angle? What happened?
Options:
1. Pull 3rd member and drill out/extract the remaining bolt. don’t see how I can do that without disengaging the C clips and axles.
2. New MFing rear everything (maybe with a locker)
3. Burn the whole thing down
4. Just let it keep fouling the brakes.

Drill a pilot hole in the piece you are holding.
Use a 90 degree angle drill to drill into the broken pin using the pilot hole piece as a guide. Then use a extractor bit to back it out. I've done this twice.
I have also read of folks using a reverse drill bit with and angle drill.

Hey, that sounds better than my other options. Thanks! I wonder why it bound up?

Not sure why but both instances I had were on 74 axles. Neither had obvious signs of damage to the gears and both have worked fine after replacing the broken bolt.
