Clearning out the jungle in the corner of my yard Sunday and got this nasty little sting from a black wasp of some sort. Looks like a localized reaction, no need for the epipen this time  I did exact revenge with some wasp/hornet spray -- lots of it. Wiped out the whole colony I think :D

IH8WASPS!! They can be deadly to me... In this way, summer sucks

:flipoff2: them, they're all dead now. It still hurts...

I got into a hornets nest last year while running my chainsaw. My arm looked like that.

My wife saw the whole thing. She said I didn't set the saw down, and I didn't throw it down, I just kind of dropped it from where it was.

Then to top it off, I fell down while trying to run away. I got lucky, only about four stings.

I had to go to the doctor anyway, for poison oak. After the poison and hornets, I let the dead tress lay there until winter.

    J.R.

My recommendation to deal with these buggers are - insect repellent. It's not only useful against the mosquitos, but highly effective against the wasps. When you hit the nest (on purpose) and can't get away in time, fog your general vicinity with the insect repellent and watch the bugs fly like they're drunk! The insect repellent really messes with their senses and they can't fly straight, let along sting you!

Oh, and carburator cleaner works great as a improvised "flame thrower" against their nest :)

Berrymans B-12 (no flame) works great. They pretty much go "tits up" upon contact with this stuff. Works on spiders too! (IH8SPIDERS).

I've started using (can't remember brand name...) non-toxic wasp killer recently. The majority of my use is shooting nests under the eaves of my house every April/May and got tired of inhaling/ingesting the inevitable plume of noxious nastiness regardless of which way the wind was blowing.

The non-toxic stuff just tastes like fresh mint leaves when it blows in your face and seems to kill things just as well. I can even shoot the individuals out of the air with an amazing success rate.

Disposed of a wasp's nest at beach house years ago. Don't forget to soak that sucker with Raid Wasp Killer or similar product a couple more times so any survivors don't come back and start rebuilding! Little bastards will do that!

    How do you find out....

How do you find out if you are "deathly alergic" to them or to anything?

Get stung by one and go into shock... Or have an allergy test done.

Now I know why you didn't show up to take off your H/T ! Of course, if you had shown up, you could have helped me wipe out my wasp nests too-probably killed a couple hundred on Sunday :) I was actually spraying one nest and a huge barn rat came crawling out from behind it-soaked with wasp and hornet spray. Does anyone know what it will do to a rat? He wasn't moving very well when last seen :D Maybe now my wiring will be safe. Keep that epi pen handy!
