OK, has anyone serviced their ignition wiring? How many bananas? :p My ignition is going a little weird on me. First off, out of the blue about 2 weeks ago it started making a rapid chiming (b-b-b-beep) when I took the key out. This is not the slower beeping of door open alarm, but another noise I have never heard before. Maybe a 'key in the ignition' alarm that had never gone off before? Anyway, whatever it is supposed to be it came on when I removed the key from the ignition even though the door was closed and the lights were off. It did this for about 3 days then stopped.

Fast forward to this weekend and I'm stuck in a ferry line up so I turn on the radio. In 'Acc' mode, the radio works but every 30 seconds or so this stupid beeping comes on. If I turn the key all the way to 'start' without turning the starter over it kills the beeping but now I have all the dash lights on, so I give in and turn off the radio and take the key out. Then my son starts playing with his power window even though the key is out. It works! I check and sure enough mine does too. I figure out that intermittently when I turn the ignition off and remove the key the windows still work, although the radio and other accessories do not. Anyway since then I randomly get the alarm going off when I pull the key. It stops after ten seconds, but I am worried that my ignition is leaving some accessories switched on which will kill my battery one day soon.

This may have something to do with my daytime running lights package or my alarm. I have a multitester, solder iron and FSM but I'm not sure if I want to dig in there or should turn an electrical specialist loose.

As far as your power window thing, mine work with the key out as long as you don't open a door. So if you pull in the driveway you can pull out the keys and still work the windows (not the moonroof though) as long as all doors remain shut. Same with the headlights. If you leave them on when you key off, they stay on until I open the door, then go out.

Just a note on the windows - mine work for awhile with the key out BUT there is a timer running which gets restarted from 0 when you move the window. If you leave the window alone for like 1 minute? and the doors closed then it will cut out. I figure it's a security feature.

Simon - I know the above doesn't help you but thought I bring it up.

I really doubt it's the daytime lights but you never know. I'd try pulling the fuse for the daytimes (if you have one) and then check it out. I've pulled my already anyway as I'm a control freak (just as my wife).

interesting that the windows thing is supposed to happen! It only seems to work intermittently on mine but at least it may have zero to do with the intermittent alarm problem. Does anyone recognize the alarm??

The strange beep sounds like the moon roof open alert based on "hearing a sound" through text :D

aha, my moon roof was open! maybe my moon roof was ajar two weeks ago, but wait, is the alarm supposed to go off while you have the ignition turned to "acc" ?

hmmm, I think it is supposed to go off with key out...I just tested and mine only goes off with key in off position (or out).

I am positive that is the sound though.

i have never heard any alarm in conection with the sunroof open,is there a real signal that the roof is open? hmmm, inquiring minds want to know.........

Windows are hot till front doors are opened for the first 30seconds with the keys off, IIRC. This is a features of few imports I've owned.

Frank.

The beep for the sunroof is for the tilt up position only, when you remove the key it will beep really loud for 15-30 seconds. If it is slid open it won't make any noise.
The power windows are supposed to stay powered for ~1 minute after you turn off the ignition, until you open a door.

Test it out, me and the kids did. If you keep using the windows every 20 seconds they will stay "hot". Kind of cool. It's a fun test to do while stuck waiting in the truck for a "ferry" or whatever.

For the electronics pucks out there - it's like a retriggerable monostable.
