This switch is in my 1980 FJ45 with factory AC. It is a two position switch, so its either on or off. I've driven the truck for a year or so and just noticed it last week.

Is the purpose of the switch to up the idle when using the AC? The engine seems to be able to deal with the AC without increasing the idle speed.

Thanks, Mike

:bang: I knew something was wrong!

I just thought someone moved my rear-view mirror to the left!

Yes.

It is also useful for uphill starts while four wheeling.;)

A/C Solenoid

Idle up for OEM A/C on 40's around here use a 12v solenoid on the carb with adjustable linkage.
The idle up pull switch is usefull in manual tranny vehicles where there are 3 foot pedals while we only have 2 feet.
Mostly I've only seen these manual idle up switches on diesel engines, but my 1998 gas 5 speed manual Pajero does has one too.
