When i start up (1985-3B) my idle speed is around 500-750rpm. After i start driving and come to a stop sign, light etc.... my idle speed is 1500rpm (brake, and clutch depressed). Is this normal? Should the idle be the same as at start up? Any input would be appreciated.

Best guess .... and one of the cheaper fixes : fuel pump diaphragm

thanks after reading some posts on the subject, i ordered one today from toyota $100. Hope the installation isn't too bad; any advise?

That sounds a bit rich ... I'll have to check but I thought I paid about $NZ25 for the part and it took about 1hr all up to fit ... I'll dig out the bill tonight

Replaced it this afternoon, took about an hour and was relatively easy to install. What a difference, she purrs like a kitten now!

It all follows Toyota North America's Marketing Strategy...

ALL Toyota parts are very rich here in Canada. Like $285 for a BJ60 Nippondenso alternator regulator than can be had for less than $50 (I got mine for $17) is you know where to shop.

You can thank Toyota North America's marketing geniuses for that. I was actually told by a parts manager at a bigger Toyota several years ago that they established their price based on demographic studies showing than in North America, the average Landcruiser owner has a 6 figure salary (I wish!)

In certain countries this outrageous profiteering attitude would be a sufficient reason for being lynched on the spot.

In NZ, OZ and most other places where they are actually bought to survive actual local road conditions, Landcruisers are bought for their Utility, NOT as a fashion statement like they are too often here in North America.

Unfortunately in Canada and especially in Quebec where we have extremely harsh road conditions, we have been considered, since Toyota Canada was taken over by Toyota Kalifornia in the late 80s, just like another state and have since lost the good old non nonsense diesels and all lower-end, sturdy and reliable versions of the truck still available in other countries with dificult road conditions.

Oh and BTW, last time I looked, about 10 years ago, that part was less than 25 loonies from the dealer.
