Can anyone help me identify what year a FJ40 trasfercase housing is from by the numbers stamped in the housing? I remember seeing this somewhere and I've searched to no avail. The numbers are "6KT 5315". I believe it is from a 1975. Any help or links other than the one in Tech are appreciated.

We know it's from a 4 speed trany. Just not sure of the vintage. According to the info in Tech it can be a 9/73-7/78 or 7/78-7/80. I once bought a 4 spped case as a spare and when I went to put my 08/75 guts in it I found it to be the narrower early 4 speed case some call the transition case.

I seem to remember an article in Toyota Trails some time ago. Can anyone help?

EDIT: all my mistakes

73-78 case
According to this great article it is a 9/73-7/78. Just like you say. Thanks again.

I thought there was a way to ID it from the stampings. Oh well.

when I go home I'll look on a couple of cases I have and see what they say. I have a transition case and a 76 which should pretty much cover the spectrum for those years
