Got something you would like to see? Post up your thoughts here.

No:censor: threads, sorry:D

I think a good FAQ thread would be about lifts. Im pretty new here and it took me a lot of searches and reading to figure out what was what. Depending on what parts you mix and match you can have anywhere from 1.5" to 7.5" . It would be nice for someone to write up a list of how to get what size and what is necessary to do it. along with what tire and rim can go with what lift.

I have a suggestion for a lift FAQ. Back in my 4Runner days I was active over at 4x4wire.com. What was done over there was anyone who wanted to submitted a brief writeup of what setup they had, what tires they ran and what they thought of the setup. Everyone also included two or three pictures. I think this would be an excellent route to go for a lift faq.

I'd like to see a FAQ about the antenna. Seems like a good one that could be nailed down fairly well, and a lot of new folks inherit power antenna issues.. anything from how to replace the mast, to how to take the unit out, to what to do when the mast goes down all but the last 5", etc..

In fact, I'd be willing to test the FAQ by finally getting around to fixing mine. :)

In the maintenace section there is a great write-up with pictures on how to fix the antenna.

Fixes for power windows and sunroof. Unless its already on there.

Yea I think a lift FAQ would be great, I've been looking through pages after pages trying to gather all the info on lift and tire size. Having it all in one place would be amazing. Being able to know what it takes to run 35" tires or 37" or 33" or what ever, without having to find some way to search for it would easily make up for the work that would have to go into a FAQ like that. But it would be a fair bit of work none the less, so doing something like a heated seat, or antena FAQ would make since before a lift FAQ. Still, I vote for lift FAQ.
Cheers.

Yeah, but he didn't add pictures to it yet!

Some suggestions off the top of my head:

1. Tires (different types, sizes, brands available and user comments on each)

2.Front bumper options (ARB, TJM, others, homemade?)

3. Maintenance section: general user's maintenance tips/tricks

4. Turbo/supercharger section

5. Recommended shops in various geographic regions (still pushing this idea! ;) )

As an aside, a suggestion for the format of the FAQ: organizing it into categories is great, but I think there should also be a master list of all links/threads within each category laid out all in one main list so it is easily searchable in a web browser, etc.

Keep up the great work, Romer!

I thought we had already covered number 2.

Having a Master list would mean two things to maintain to keep in sync. If you consider the 80's section a Master list, you can serach it with the word FAQ and whatever word you are looking for and get the same thing.

The Lift one sounds like a great idea. Having to get the info listed above would take some research as it probably should go in the first few posts before others add their rigs.

Anyone done this research and care to PM me or reffug the results so we could start the thread?

the problem with the lift tire idea is that everyone has a different definition of what is acceptable and what is needed.

While some would want info on setting up their trucks so that they maintain their factory drivabilty, ie: proper caster, others could care less and then the onslaught of conflicting views begins.

As an example, once there was a member who insisted that a certain tire would rub, turns out he was running rims that did not have the proper back spacing for the truck. His responce to that was that you need to run those rims for a better stance, of course.

Best of luck to anyone willing to tackle that one.

Perhaps the lift thread could be split into "trying to maintain close to stock suspension geometry" and "dedicated trail rig / not close to stock" categories. But with better names, of course.

When I suggested the lift thread I was thinking along the lines of how to get a certain lift from commonly available parts and keep the front at least close to correct settings. I think if someone wrote it right as just generals then it would save a lot of people endless hours of reading. As I said before you can get anywhere from 1.5 to 7.5 in about 1/2 inch to 1 inch increments depending on what parts you order. Just give people a basic understanding of which parts are good for which aplications. I.E. which parts are more hardcore offroad, and at what hight do you need to start with things like DC front shafts etc. Then throw on some pictures showing how the different hights look with different tires.

Vacum hose routing pictures for 91-92, 93-94, 95-97. The diagram in the fsm is horrible. The sticker on the hood isn't that great either.

Thanks for the support, Ken (and Reffug)

How about a catch-all for those niggles several people have had:

Power Seat Motor Jam
Washer Diverter Not Diverting
Door Latch Jam
(personally, I think the power antenna link could go here, too)

I know those don't fall into the realm of turning the regular cruiser into the off road monster, but, it's still stuff that would be nice to find in one spot.

In the general maint area, can we get some feedback for greasing: U-joints, driveshaft splines and knuckles? I searched, read all of IdahoDoug's trials, and still came away with  I want to know which grade of grease people here have used successfully on all those areas, and how much they generally pump in. (I have RTFM, both owners and FS, so I know what is recommended. I'd like feedback from the forum to augment what I effin read! :grinpimp: )

Again, stellar effort, and I hope you can link up some good stuff on these topics as well.

I have to second these suggestions. These would be great! :bounce:
