I have been thinking of areas less explored lately, also. Here are a few areas I want to go to, right here in NM, as soon as the weather warms up.
1. Mt Withington area
2. Gallinas Mts.
3 Sawtooth Mts, never been there
3 San Mateo Mts.
4 Bear Mts

No, streams or lakes, but that is the reason there are few people in this area. I like that, when I camp. Nothing wrong with fishing, though.

Lots of great popular areas north of ABQ, but more remote camping and exploring south of here. I have been into a few of these areas I have mentioned, but many areas down in this central part of NM , I have never seen, up close. I want to see where some FR's end up and would like help put together some back country camping trips, down there. Hiking would be the major form of entertainment, after finding a camp site.
Magdalena, and Datil, NM are the nearest Food/Gas, so any multi day exploration will involve extra Gas cans, extra H2O cans, and , of course, extra Beer cans.:steer::beer:⛰️🏕️

This I approve. I've been in the Chloride area, but don't remember any of this.

A buddy and I went camping last Summer on FS Road 639 that starts at Truchas, NM. The road is really rocky and rutty, would be a real sh*tshow if wet and muddy but luckily it was dry when we went. It's some pretty country though and you can find some really nice views of Trampas Peak. We found a pretty decent camping spot up there and basically that road had no traffic on it AT ALL until you got to the turn where it hits a more normal dirt road where people park to hike up the peak. On the flip side, it was a bit freaky being so remote, and on my way out I had the biggest bear I have ever seen in my life jump out in front of my truck and run down the road in front of me for a half mile before ducking off. That thing just flew up the side of the hill in record speed until stopping and looking back at me. Was by myself and that got the adrenaline going real good!!!

I've been meaning to explore other remote camping areas up North in that same area so if anyone has any other FS roads to check out, please reply with details. Having some source of water to sit near with a chair and a beer is a bonus. Preferably a cool stream. Thanks!

If anyones down let set something up. Its about 3.5 hrs from abq or 4.5hrs if you drive a 3fe lol

I volunteer you to lead this run once the weather warms up. We'll give you a head start of course. :flipoff2:

I have been in that area, but never went on that south FR. Looks great. I started getting my camping gear ready.!!!. Thanks for the cool pics.

that area south of chloride is where I've deer hunted a few years. I have pic of that cabin too. saw a beautiful bear in the canyon north of it. in fact I've seen tons of bears in that area. they haven't wanted anything to do with humans. some great spots west off the main road to hike toward the wilderness too. the hike south of Hermosa at the gate/end of the road is cool too. bear pic is blurry because I was sitting under a tree in the grass. he was only 60 yards off when he saw us.

Haha ill need it. Im down to lead. There is alot of just easy cruising trails Where anything stock could easily go. An some others that will need clearance .

That area appears to be closed in April due to the "conditions". See my post in the trails thread, in HDC. Basically, Chloride canyon is temp closed.

Hmmm, give a man the choice between a V8 4R and a turbo-d 80 and suddenly he's not the slow one saving the V6 4Rs from their own lead foot and allowing them to achieve 20+mpg! :flipoff2:
