What do you consider much pressure?

gb

Pressure sufficient to deliver enough oil between the cams and the lifters... In retrospect I believe this could have been prevented by an occasional inspection of the camshaft with the cover off to see whether enough oil was reaching the cam lobes...

I remember adjusting the valves on my of 2F that there wasn't much oil shooting there at idle. On some of the engines I worked on when I was younger, however, I'd often be sprayed with oil...

I would find it hard to understand why Toyota, of all people, would design an engine that required users to wait any longer than putting on sunnies and belting up, before they could drive off. I was brought up on the philosophy that warming up was best done by normal driving, preferably in top gear, without labouring the motor.

this is what i do when it's cold.

crank the idle upto about 1200rpm the night before.
glow screen for about 10secs.
fire her up.
let idle until smoke is finished 1-2 mins.
drive away keepin revs below 2000rpm untill thermostat opens.
