sometimes i have to shake my head when i read uneducated verbal vomit that spews out of reporters finger tips:
snow tires are better than ice radials:
Get a grip this winter - The Sarnia Observer - Ontario, CA

other times they make total sense (including the comments):
<i do not agree the winter tires should be legislated as law but i guess you have to for those with no common sense to do something - good driving habits go a long way but poor driving habits can be off set with very good tires>
Ontario won't mandate use of winter tires

list of different ice and winter tires;
The Rubber Association of Canada - L'Association canadienne de l'industrie du caoutchouc
i have run the
good year Ultra Grip Ice
Bridgestone Blizzak REVO1
Cooper Discoverer M&S
Dunlop Grandtrek WT
Michelin Arctic Alpin
Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT

and of course assorted mud tires.
the Nokian was the best, the blizzak and dunlop are very close second, the michelin and good year are deffinately acceptable and the coopers were the bottom of the list. my wife called the nokian her winter rally tires they performed so good.

i have also ran the CT ice radials with excellent results.
the blizzaks last a long time. i have dunlops on the rig right now and seeing the 4th winter with one "all year round" driving.

the secret of Nokian performance is to be enviromentally friendly and eat healthy:
