On recent long haul trip: with new rotor, dist. cap and u-joint (thanks Dan), beater 31.10 tires on stock 15 wheels, driving 55 to 60 (with short runs at 65) with no cruise control, I averaged 17.76 to 18.34mpg. I almost couldn't believe it, I had to triple-check to be sure.
Before trip I replaced the partial front bumper with a full bumper from a '97 LX450 and removed third-row, but she was still loaded.
Also had the bike rack with bike on back. Removed Yakima but still had original roof rack on top.
I believe the full bumper helped smooth airflow around and past the tires. Oh, and I even used the chilly ac intermittently.
Prior to all this, best gas mileage was almost 17 mpg.
I'm thinking, take out second row, remove roof rack, smooth roof, sans bike and bike rack, fix and use cruise control, give it a good wax, remove side-rails, replace tires, I should be able to crack 19 mpg.
And the trip proved my re-location of EFI relay in air duct inside passenger cab works - no problem with the EFI relay overheating.
Long live the mighty 3FE.
