Ok, so I've been struggling with the front PS shock for two days now and its been a royal pain.

I put a nut splitter on the nut and split it, still won't budge. Been hammering on it and wedged a screwdriver in it to spread it more, it spread more, but still stuck.

Got the bottom nut off no problem, it broke free easily.

Curse the shocks on the 80, ugh.

Any other suggestions short of torching the thing off?

I think I'm going to let the Toy dealer here do the driver side, I'm wasting away my vacation time screwing with these darn shocks.

Yep, just got the dremel and cut a little hunk off and it just fell off. Whew, don't know if I want to tackle the DS shock now though.

How much you suppose the dealer would charge me to replace the one shock?

nah, do it yourself now that you know how. Put some *good* penetrating oil on it first though.

I've been soaking the nuts with PB blaster for the last 36 hours, that's probably why the lower PS shock broke free so easily.

I'm gonna give it a shot on the DS shock, taking a break first though, what good is a vacation if I can't enjoy step #6 every now and then.

try and hit it with a impact gun, or cut it off.

Andrew,
The PS top shock nut is the easy one. I would say that you should start the DS with the dremel and the cut-off wheel and be done with it. Try to avoid slicing through a brake like with the dremel. :D

In the meantime, continue soaking those lower rear shock mounts with PB. If you break one of those bolts you are in for a long day of drilling and tapping.

Well, that was easy, the top nut on DS shock is loose now, hmm, guess I saved some coin.

Now I have to figure out how to get a torque wrench in there when I get the new shock on.

Rears are already done, onle the DS front remains, and its about done now.

Thanks for the help everyone, I love IH8MUD.
