My power steering is groaning before it warms up. I feel dumb but I can't find where to check / fill fluid?

The reservoir is located at the front of the intake manifold. Remember that these use Dexron III auto transmission fluid for the power steering system.

Hydraulic groan can be from a varnish that coats the stationary and moving parts in the pump. I used Lucas power steering treatment but any brand should work.
A guy who fixes pumps told me a lot of the pumps he sees have this varnish.
Rpms that are too low also make pumps groan. I've always ran mine at 800rpm at idle

Good thought. I've used Lucas in other vehicles and it did wonders.
