They are not sleeved and they are reliable. Getting parts easily depends on your location.

Hello there BJ Cruiser. Well...I think Crushers answered your question quite precisely...I have NO REGRETS from purchasing my HZ. Mine is a 1992 HZJ73... 100 000 km...I've had to do a few minor repairs to the truck, BIG DEAL! I went from driving my piece of s@%t Chevy pickup to my HZ Cruiser....The only thing I wish did different was research the vehicle options a bit more before I chose the one I bought. Mine does not have cable lockers... I REALLY wish it did..but oh well It's on the list of many mods to come.
Fuel consumption is pretty good! I get about 650-700 km per tank (90 litres) sometimes a liitle more or less, but its fairly consistent. (unless you drive like Mario Andretti... then it sucks!!)

As for parts???? I'm in Vancouver, BC most parts are easy to find...some come from overseas. I deal with a shop that deals specifically with Landcruiser Parts..If he doesn't have it ... he'll get it!! PM me for details.

Happy Trails.. (Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.FYI- I am sometimes slow to respond)

Cheers
HZ Cruiser

Yeh, well.....Are we part of a promoting team?
I bought my 73 FRP top 12 years ago. Have a total of 238238 km's (yes realy, this week!) on the ODO-meter. This is slightly less than the real km's driven due to bigger wheels at some stages (doing a bit more serious off-roading) Have been with it to the Sahara several times, to the North of Russia near Murmansk and did a trip from western Europe to almost the Chinese border in Kazakhstan over almost 16000 km's partly off-road. Worst thing happening during this latter trip was loosing a bolt that attaches one of the front shocks. No technical problems during the other trips
Necessary repairs (other than regular maintenance): replacing the bearing for the outputshaft for the rear drive-shaft in the Transferbox and replacing one of the u-joints in the driveshaft.
Other replacements I did (as a precaution for the trip to Kazakhstan) was the wheelbearings all around.
Another thing (but you could say that it's regular maintenance) is: I have the injectors checked every 100.000 km's. A bad spray pattern can easily damage the engine (pistons) and is bad for your milage.

Of the km's I did I was towing a trailer (about 1600 kgs) for about 70.000 km's, and I guess I did about 20.000 km's in off-road conditions. I have an overall milage of 7,55 km to the liter or 13,24 liter for 100 km's. That is corrected for ODO-deviations.

There is one thing where I disagree with the previous posters. Rust.
It may depend on the area you live in (I live near the sea), but the 70-series over here are known to have some rust-problems in the body.
Prone to rust are:
1.the seams and edges where the inner and outer front mudgards meet;
2.the lower bodyparts between doors and rear wheelwells;
3.the lower bodyparts behind the rear wheelwells.

Shortly after buying my rig (it was about 9 months old at that time) I heard a strange sound when accelerating and braking. I found standing water in those areas mentioned under 2 and 3. The drainholes (justs small gaps inbetween the metal sheets) where plugged by dirt. I openend them, poking in there with the tapered end of a tight-wrap. But those areas kept collecting water (from condensation?)
and is damp most of the time. So recently I had to do some bodywork to restore.
After that I drilled some real holes at the bottom and sprayed liberally with anti-rust.
Now I trust my rig to hold on for another 12 years without major problem.

When you get it chuck the electric hubs and go manual.

i know there are a number that do not like the elec hubs but i am happy with the number of units i have with them...
i would wait till you NEED to change one out then do the swap...
