I’m traveling this week and saw this in Karlskrona, Sweden today. HZJ-78. Diesel, the guy has been all around the world with it including to Alaska (he wasn’t too complimentary about the American mechanics ability to work on it). But a nice truck.

I wonder how well the Swedish mechanics could handle the maintenance requirements of a 2018 Duramax Chevy. :)

I don't think it is an question of the mechanic's ability but more of obtaining parts...even the oil filter. Sounds like this guy should have carried with him all the preventive maintenance items if he didn't do so already.

He was a genuine world traveler in that truck so I suppose here carried most of what he needed. He mentioned having a rear wheel bearing changed in Alaska that only lasted 1000 miles. Anyway it would probably be like us traveling in africa with a Chevy and finding someone with experince working on one.

We don't actually know what the problem with the mechanic was. He may have gotten someone whose enthusiasm exceeded his competency, but its unfair to label them all the same. I wouldn't do a trip like that if I couldn't do a simple wheel bearing job myself, although the weather may have hindered him in that regard.
