Picked up some longs & 4x4 labs highsteer arms for my truck and I am wondering what length ram I need. I want to turn my steering stops all the way in. I am not going to have a problem with tires hitting the springs in my application...

I have seen that most use a 6" ram just want to make sure that with a 6" ram I will be able to run the steering stops all the way in and still turn it to the steering stops and not run out of ram.
 
6 inches should do. There are plenty of adjustment on both ends
of the heims so you can get a bit more out of them if needed.

I was under the impression that the 4x4 arms are longer. Better measure the travel of the tie rod, or call Luke..
 
Ditto... the stock arms can use 6.75" (FJ60/62) on 40 axle, and the highsteer are 8-ish"?

Best answer is to measure the travel at the tie rod on your truck and go from there.
 
Best answer is to install the arms and see how much throw you need. Especially if you want to max out or remove your steering stops. I thought you needed the 8" ram for the Luke arms but I'm sure it depends on who you ask. I ended up with a 6.75" ram using FJ60 knuckles on a 40 axle and without steering stops it is just enough to start squishing the felts on the back of the knuckle.

This is with 30 spline longs, might not be advised with stock birfs.

I am no expert here, I am still in the middle of my own hydro assist and still learning as I go. I just ported my scout II steering box last week, testing yesterday proves I did it right. I'm building my own steering arms, and they aren't finished. I'm not sure what ram I will end up using yet.

I agree that a tight turning radius is a good thing. But, I have always kept my steering stops adjusted out quite a bit to keep from putting my birf's on a bind. I do know that if your gonna break a birf, while your steering is locked in a turn is when it happens most. I attribute never having broken a birf personally, to how I keep my steering stops adjusted. If you have some 30 spline longfeild in your rig, it's probably fine to adjust them stops all the way in as far as possible. I would guess in that case you could probably run the 6.75" ram. The 30 splines may not have the radius of the stock 27 spines, I don't know.

I was running my front 60 axle all the steering stops all the way in .. great turnning radio .. then I buy the PSC 1.5" X 6" Ram and install it ..

Nice but I loose plenty of my turning radius If where me the next time I should go with 7" ram ..
 
8" is the recomended length for 40 and 60 series,l use 10" ram on my BJ42 with 80 series axle housing.

8 are good, i run a 6 with 4x4labs stuff and have no probs. also like the ram to stop before i break something
