Has anyone removed one of these before? Maybe someone out there with a service manual can help me..

ours is leaking and I want to remove and patch...

best way to it - underneath by removing inner fender, or though the hood??

its cold in the garage - would like to avoid trial and error on this one!

thanks

Access if from the wheelwell. Pull the plugs/wires from the pumps (2 of them), take the screws out (about 3 of them--note which one went where in case they are different lengths) and pull it down along with the black plastic that surrounds it. Look for your problem. That's how I remember doing it. Pretty straight forward, lots of room to work. Installation is in reverse.

I've not removed the washer bottle but I don't think you need to remove the fender liner. Take a look in there, there is a separate cover that protects the washer bottle. Just turn the steering wheel to one side and you should have enough room.

thanks guys.. I started this project about six months ago when the weather was good. After looking at it last night I was stumped as to why I didnt fix this before - it just takes 3 bolts to pop it off. That is when I remember why I stopped.. it was one of the lines up inside the inner fender, not the resevoir.

popped off the inner fender and found the busted line.

thanks for the help!

A bit of an old thread bump, but . . .

I partially removed my reservoir today (2003 UZJ-100). The symptom was that it wasn't pumping and I thought maybe it had some sludge or crud in it. I decided to empty the fluid and refill with fresh fluid.

1) Turn wheel hard right.
2) Reach into the fender well and remove three (3) 10mm bolts that hold plastic washer reservoir and shield in place.
3) Pull whole mess loose.
4) At this point, the washer reservoir separates from the filler tube and you will be supporting the weight of the reservoir. No biggie, unless it is full! It holds a couple gallons I think, and it was kinda hard to hold it from down under the truck with my arms out sideways!
5) I did not disconnect the electrical or the plumbing. I just tipped the whole thing over and dumped it into a pan. Then I used a garden hose and sort of rinsed out the reservoir.
6) I put it all back in and refilled it with fresh fluid.

I tested it. It works. I hope this solves the problem.

An easy one  project.
