How to remove the footrest in the driver's footwell? (1 Viewer)

Is there anything special on how to remove the dead pedal in the driver's footwell? Looking at the parts diagram it looks like there maybe is a special clip?

Also does anyone know if the carpet extends completely underneath the footrest? In case it matters, I am looking to do a custom stereo midbass/front subwoofer in this area on my 2001 LX.

Carpet all the way underneath: yes. I don't know about the rest, because mine was removed sometime in the past with brute force and sort of just floats there now.
