I've got a 2016 Land Cruiser and I've been looking for information on how to:

1. disassemble the dash enough to relocate the USB to the glovebox (leaving a USB in place keeps the flap up - if I remove the flap, it's gonna get lost!....plus it will just LOOK better)

2. disassemble the rear console enough to relocate the cigarette adaptor under one of the front seats - thinks plugged in there are just BEGGING to be kicked/broken

Has anyone done either of these or have you seen threads on the subject?

Thanks

I haven't, but the FSM has very helpful info on interior disassembly. The 200 FSM is waaay better than the previous versions; maybe that's why it's published in five volumes thicker than the Manhattan phone book.

I bought this USB drive for storing music, in 64 GB:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FJRS6QY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's really tiny, the little "flap" cover is almost closed when it's installed in the port.

LOL, thanks!! I actually just bought the 32gb version last night. I'm thinking of just pulling off the port cover and getting a 'headphone jack dust plug' (also on amazon). If they had only reversed the order (put the headphone jack closest to the door hinge it would have come closer to closing! I am still interested in relocating the plug if it isn't too terribly difficult (or expensive).

now....I need to either relocate the rear cigarette adaptor OR just do an add-a-fuse solution and put a multiport under one of the seats.

OH! and hardwire my Escort radar so the cord doesn't dangle in front of the screen!

I hear ya. I hate cords hanging around.

KLF- Thans for the USB link. I think I'm going to buy one. What types of music files are you guys putting on here? In separate folders?

*HIJACK OVER*

OP- I think just adding under the seat and in the glovebox is the way to go. Relocating seems like way too much work. The 100 series guys have a few posts on adding USB plugs all over the place if I remember correctly. Or maybe follow thee threads on the USB plugs in the rear drawers?

I'll be following this thread.

Do you have a link by any chance? I think you are probably right and I will be searching out the add-a-fuse route

Somewhere on here there is a thread on my experimenting on the best way to load up a USB with music. The head unit is not great at navigating folders. You can't, say... create a folder for each artist, then a sub-folder for each album, then dump the songs in there. Won't work. It can only go one folder deep. So, I make a folder named "artist-album", then put all the songs in there. Use Media Player to "rip" a CD to MP3. It will not read tunes directly from iTunes, I forget the format but it is proprietary (no surprise there).

Browsing folders is also disabled while the truck is in motion.

Benefit of using USB over just putting all your music on your phone is that getting Bluetooth out of the connection really improves the sound quality.

1. My son's 2016 Tacoma goes more than one folder deep and it allows for folder navigation while in motion (no mods). I'm in his truck as a passenger watching him do it as I type this.

My USB arrives today so I will be able to see any difference in the behavior of my wife's Land cruiser (also a 2016) in a few hours.

2. For iTunes go into settings and change the default rip file from whatever the default is to mp3....voila!

A quick search of USB in the 100 forum has some decent results. I'm on my phone which is less than ideal for searching but here are a couple:

What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

Maybe reach out to one of these members. I didn't see a specific DIY, locate blue wire here type of write up but looks like a few threads to dig into. The 2016 is obviously different in that area but the concept (and parts) should be the same.

When I first plugged in a charger in ours I thought "this is going to get kicked and broken quickly...".

The beatsonic smartphone mirroring kit post I made here (on phone, can't find link at the moment) for the 2016 taps into power and places two usb slots in the glovebox to be used for video equipment, but you can unplug and use them for whatever you want.

You can also eliminate Bluetooth and improve the sound by linking your phone directly with a USB cable. It allows you to charge, stream music and easily navigate saved or streaming music via your phone.
