This may be a dumb question, but I just bought these new OEM side apron emblems to put on the FJ40, I'm not exactly sure how. Or maybe I am but am just worried to break the emblem. Do I need to widen the wholes so that these little black grommets will fit in there? The previous OEM ones had some metal grommets holding the emblems in but broke off; but those were quite a bit thinner.

I think the solution is probably drill baby drill but I just wanted to make sure before I did it.

After further investigation, I think you're right Racer. Now I feel dumb!:(:bang:

That being said if I were to drill the holes slightly larger that should do the trick wouldn't it?

I strongly recommend you exchange the part instead of drilling holes into the body. It's better to have no emblem!

Can't remember but for the POST 81 emblem don't you need the springclips? Or is dat only for the diesel emblem so not applicable for you at all?o_O

those black things look like nuts or clips are you sure those don't come off? otherwise I would exchange and not drill. The ones you need exist and they will fit. If you start drilling you run the risk of making it unfixable

Mine were plastic and the little tits broke off. I got some 3M body moulding double sided tape and used that. You can't tell by looking how they are attached. My rig is absolutely not a show truck.

Thanks for the help guys. I did decide to return them and get the ones that fit. I think there was a date somewhere I saw in the description for these that led me to believe that they fit, but I've now learned otherwise.

I'm sure the 3M application should work well too it looks good. Since mine were brand new with 14 day return anyway I figured I should just send them back.

I have the same exact problem. Mine is a 79 and the prongs broke off the back side of the emblem. I am going to order from racer. How did you install the emblem once you received the correct ones? I can’t find anything that says to just push them on and into the holes without removing the grommet or to remove the grommet and reinstall from inside the engine bay. Any help would be appreciated, as I don’t want to break anything.

If yours is like mine, and it sounds like it is. You don't have to remove any grommets. They're these little metal grommets and you just have to push them through the holes all together. It's sort of hard to see by my picture, but the metal grommets should just squeeze through holes and then expand thus keeping the emblems pressed on. Just make sure you're not using too much force and try to push them all in just a little bit. So don't push one end in completely and the other end of the emblem is not in the hole at all. It should be fine though and you shouldn't have any problems.

Double sided plastic tape. Works great

Or

Push in the holes that line up grind down the other ones then Melt the plastic on the inside to a gob. Works great

Nail gun. Works great

@Andretti79 or yeah you could definitely always do that with your old ones that have broken prongs.

For anyone installing these emblems, remove the little metal insert from the plastic nub, and THEN install the metal insert into the apron by itself. They pop right in. Then, once all 4 clips are in the apron, press the emblem in. This will keep you from breaking the emblem trying to install it with the clips on….
