After reading all the SB threads I couldn't find any specifics on how much you tighten them. My OEM bleeders are only cranked half way in..... is it important how tight you make them as long as they aren't leaking ?

I also just removed my front bleeders and they have axle grease on the inside.... does that mean my calipers are shot, or leaking somewhere?

Just snug them down like you do a stock bleeder screw.

I can only imagine you are mistaking gunked-up brake fluid for grease. There's no way for grease to get in there unless somebody pumped it in. You may want to pull the calipers and check them to make sure the pistons move freely, and then flush/bleed them thoroughly.

i don't know what you mean by "cranked 1/2 way in". As noted above, you tighten the same as an OEM bleeder. That is, the bottom of the bleed screw seals against a cup in the caliper body. tighten them up snug. there should be some threads exposed on the bleeder screw, if that is what you mean by "1/2 way in". But when the bleeder bottoms out, it is all the way in, regardless how many threads are showing.

Not very tight. Its brass IIRC. Biggest problem people have with speedbleeders is overtightening them.

Ultimately, I just tightened them down enough to where the caps stopped blowing off when I pushed on the brake ...... pretty much all the way down since they're shorter than the original bleeder.
Now onto the 95 4runner booster install tomorrow.... I'm sure that I'll F that job up good and proper , turning a 2 hr.job into a 2 day job.

Ha, sounds like the way I work. Why do you need a new booster? I've heard of others going with a new MC, but not a new booster.

I had a complete brake job done (minus the booster) 3 yrs. ago, including the master and slave. The original booster had never worked... not much worked when I bought it truthfully. From what Iv'e read on here 4runner boosters are pretty much "direct bolt on"?!?!
Cost me 1500$ for the brake overhaul which is 100$ more than I paid for the 60.... since I found this site, never again to the lousy/extremely expensive mechanic (even if one of my arms falls off)!!
