So i should probably start by saying that i have no interest in selling this car. I have a strong sentimental attachemnt to this vehicle namely because my father had one many years ago and my memories from when i was younger going camping and hunting are relived every time i drive it.

I am only curious as to what it would sell for. I would guess around 30kusd.

Here are the details:

-1978
-Believe it or not, no rust and original paint. Ming rustproofing.
-PTO winch
-Factory Air conditioning
-Factory Power steer
-Rear heater
-Original tools, bag, jack, levers/handles
-Engine, chassis manuals and parts reference books.
-Soon to have Roberts Diff-Locks -> look it up.

The car is kept at the back of my office which is air conditioned most of the time. The pictures were taken Before i fitted the winch and for some reason, on the day the photos were taken, the drivers head rest was taken off..

Beautiful truck! I wouldn't sell it either. Sorry, can't help you with the value, not enough experpience with piggies.

Exceptional pig. I'd think 20-25K max in the US. That is almost a museum piece.

That is one nice rig. I believe an original one like that, a survivor, would easily bring your asking price. Trying to buy one , restore it to original, would cost quite a lot anyway. Maybe one of the many toyota museums would give you even more.

?20-30k? sure, why not? beauty is in the eye of the beholder tho, so it may take a while to find a buyer with the right eyes for this truck. IF I were filthy rich, I wouldn't think twice about spending that kind of coin for a rig in that condition. They are increasingly harder to find in un-hacked, abused and used condition. I passed up a straight across trade for an 01? something ford f150 extended cab, good lift, brand spankin new tires, full leather and tint and only 75000 original miles for my cut in half flat bedded 1973 FJ55 pick up just 2 days ago. The guy was shocked that I didn't even think about it and had to ask "really???" I believe he was serious as a heart attack. but then again, I'm kinda stupid when it comes to the pigs;)

So how long have you owned it for?

you wont get anywhere near that, they are not popular in oz,not being mean but i doubt you would get anywhere near 10 grand, and you are not going to sell anyway so its all hypothetical,i know of one here that has got 26680ks on it and after 8 months a mate bought it for $5500 the guy couldnt sell it,started off at $12000

I assume it has the petrol engine?
That is a beautiful Pig, and I'm sure there is a collector, somewhere in the world, that would jump on that. PM Marv Specter and Greg Mushro...
In the U.S., it would probably have to pass an emissions test. Unless it was diesel powered (hint, hint).
I can't see having much use for a Pig that nice...car shows, parades, museums maybe. Rent it to a local Toyota dealer, let them put it in their showroom. I couldn't see driving it around town, or off-road. Perhaps that is the problem with selling extremely well-preserved 4x4s, you just can't use them their potential. It's like buying a Ferrari and sticking to the 55 MPH speed limit (oh, wait...some people DO do that).
Plus, '78 is not my favorite year for a Pig.
So, I do wish you luck in finding that particular buyer, hypothetically speaking.
May we have more pics please? Engine too. Thank you.

A diesel version would make it a BJ55.

Are you saying such a thing exists Pighead?

I've only ever seen this model (BJ55) referred to in dubious non-Toyota literature.

I don't believe any Toyota factory ever made such a thing, except perhaps in prototype form.

If you have contrary evidence, please show me...

There is limited evidence of a BJ56 existing, the only pictures I've ever seen were a military pickup conversion (which may or may not have been a transplant) with the B diesel.

Beautiful piggie BTW, I'd say more like $20k in today's market :(

ppfffffffffffffftt !!

I have owned this car for 3 years and i am it’s third owner. It started life, i presume from evidence found in the car when i bought it, in Tasmania. Possibly as a lease/business vehicle.

Yes it is a petrol, i am not aware of any 55/56 series vehicles being produced with a diesel. I would entertain the thought of prototypes being built but none produced and sold. Thankfully this car was not fitted to run gas/dual fuel and the only modification on the vehicle that i could determine when i bought it was a vacuum trailer brake system. I have since removed this system but have retained the vacuum reservoir as a compressed air tank.

Some pictures for your perusal:

There were a whole heap of other pictures too but my uploads failed.. I will try again later.

Thanks for enjoying, she is a great old truck!

Not one, but two! They look right at home there. That's how I would use them, also. Landcruisers were built, to be used.

Thanks for sharing

I just placed a deposit on a FJ-55 and will be doing a rebuild. Would you mind taking exterior and interior pics for my restoration efforts?

That is a great vehicle with an awesome story.

In the last few pics you sent, were they pics of your dad and his bud, now and in years past?

As far as value, it will be worth more here in the USA. :(

(Wish my 76 had ambi rear doors instead of the hatch... Looks much better!)

Best,

T

what I want to know is: how did the two guys get younger ?
