So I've searched through many many exhaust rattle threads and found that the annoying rattle was coming from this shield.(heat, guard?). I couldn't find the PN on any of the Toyota diagrams as it just comes as part of the "Y" pipe assembly. How important is it? I cut it off and will just run without it unless there is a good reason that I should track down another replacement.

Mine disappeared some time before I bought the Golden Goose. Might help keep the floorboards cooler on PS. Doesn't affect performance.

Passenger side floorboard is hot enough and I didn't want anything else contributing heat to that area so I put a large hose clamp around mine and the rattle stopped.

+1 on the hose clamp approach

Thanks guys. I'll put something there to protect the floorboard.

they sell stainless still hose clamp and zip ties, pick one that's easier for you.

LOL, he said "zip ties"

I dont care what anyone says, I luv this guy ;) ;)

Body lift helps with heat too

Very. Its hot as hell under the PS floor board. So hot that I augmented it with another layer of heat shielding. I don't remember the exact product but its something like this: Thermo-Tec : Stainless Steel Clamp-On Heat Shield
My wife has mentioned the hot floor, so I installed 2 layers of aluminum lined fabric under the carpet. Much better, but still warm. So, since we are driving it up to the front range next month, I decided to do a little more insulation. I took a full set of OEM heat shields and mounted them right over the top of the first set. Most of the factory studs are long enough to just bolt them right over, leaving the original factory nut as a spacer. Since I had already rerouted my exhaust over the frame, I could not get THAT section of heat shield to squeeze into place. I fabbed up my own using the original as a model. I made it small enough to fit and I used the original small shield to hold it in place. I found 6mm rod coupling nuts to extend the studs above the big flat cat shield and I had to modify the second one a bit, but I got it up there. Wow I am just waiting for the wife to take a long ride and test my work. I can tell that is a bit quieter, but not sure about the heat yet.

I don't think I ever had one of those heat shields. I also never sit on the passenger side, so :meh:

I have 2 non-scientific measurements of floor temperature reduction. First, and most important/accurate, is my wife. In 2 weeks we will spend a week or more driving in and out of the Colorado Rockies. Her Melt Meter will pretty well tell the story. She noticed a significant improvement when I installed the 2 layers of insulation under the carpet. I am anxious to get her reaction now with the extra heat shields.h

Second is my computer mount temp. I run a Toughbook for GPS, mounted on a 1" tube that bolts onto both of the PS seat mounting bolts. They are RIGHT over the catz. It used to get REALLY hot but it got a little better with the insulation. Now with double shields under the whole area, I am waiting for a hard run up the hillz with some good long WOT grades to really test the the theory!
