How does one remove the H*N*L top cover from T-Case Shifter Knob (1 Viewer)

I'm recovering the shifter knobs on both the Auto Trans and T-Case.
I need to pull the top cover off with out destroying it. Any hints?
I've google this and searched on the forum to no avail.
 
auto knob is a bit more involved but its listed here on the forum
 
He's talking about the cap with the letters on it.

Couldn't say. Mine are both all rubber.
 
The actual HNL plate at the top of the shift knob is likely glued on after the leather is applied. If you're going to recover it, I'd probably cut the leather off first, then go after it with a small pry bar. Worst case scenario, you buy a new knob. If you needed to recover it anyway, it's a calculated risk.
 
Can probably get the all rubber one cheap if you destroy it.
 
Its glued on. Popped it off with a trim tool. I'll clean it up and glue it back on when the leather is redone.
looks like/feels like Black RTV or urethane of some sort.
