Hey guys, hate to probably post another stupid question But, what the heck!:)

I have changed out my exhaust to a straight pipe on the prado and it seems to be working really well - expect when I am stopped at idle the vibrations are pretty intense. if I give it a bit of gas to up the idle (with one foot on the brake) to 800 rpm or so the vibration goes away. So, I am curious if I could just adjust the idle a bit so that when the engine is warm it will idle at 800 or so??
Is there some sort of idle adjustment screw??

Thanks fellas:cheers:

top of the injection pump...
why would a change in exhaust size change the idle?

Oh, sorry (didnt mean to suggest that the exhaust change created the rough idle!)
I just notice the idle more now since I have changed the exhaust (perhaps the hangers I used dont take up as much of the vibration??- they are rubber cushioned hangers though...)

It is possible the idle has always been a little low however.
is increasing it to 800 at idle too high??

Thanks Wayne.

Hey Wayne (or anybody...) I dont suppose you happen to have a pic of this for us newbies! :-)

Thanks a lot!

The idle adjustment will just be a screw pushing on a throttle lever ,self explanatory if you take the time to see how it works.
You solution is probably to lay underneath and see where the exhaust is vibrating and add another hanger

I had exactly the same problem with my 78. After changing the exhaust the vibration at idle was intense. What I found was what rosco is suggesting. You have to get the right hangers in the right place to dampen the vibes. It took me several tries and it still vibrates more than with the original setup but is tolerable.
Did you remove or reposition the flex pipe? That could contibute to the problem as well.

Good luck!

take it back to the exhaust shop and get them to do a proper job...

Thanks guys I will look at moving the hangers around. No, I didnt rmaove any flexpipe or anything juts tied in to the exisiting muffler (I may change this out some other time to 2 1/2" right from the manifold but I will likely have a shop do that... but, to be honest I am pretty happy with the results I have so far with the 'home job'! and it was $90.00 instead of 500-1000!!)
Thanks again, BTW I did give the injection pump a closer look last night and like you say rosco- i makes more sense one you get in there.

take care!
