So right now I am rebuilding the front end on my FJ60 and swapping to 4 running calipers. When I pulled the birfield out this is what I found. How bad is the blueing around the birfield? I know that it means it was extremely hot at some point but does that mean it will be significantly weaker?

Let me hear what you guys have to say.

Mine had a little bluing but i dont recall it being that much. My brand new non-chromo newfeilds had large blue spots from the heat treat, so it might have come that way.

Did it have grease in it?

It sort of had grease in it.... The inner axle seal is leaking and that is the main reason for this whole project. The axle was pretty soked with diff fluid.

longfields are heat treated differently than a stock birf.

Grease it up and run it.

No worries then. Thanks for the input guys :)

Well, they are stock birfs.. If you are concerned about breakage, get some longs ;)

Will do when I get the $$$. College is a kiiler on $$.
