Hey guys/gals,

Just a quick intro. After a 6+ months search I found my LX 470 (gave up on finding a clean Cruiser, all sold before my calls!) in Ft Myers FL and brought it home a few weeks ago. Very clean and low miles.

Couple of questions,

Independent Specialist?, preferably on the west side

Upholstery shop, will want the seat bottoms recovered at some point.

How hard is the timing belt? Have rebuilt several engines, from SBC to flat six Porsche so not a complete idiot.

Suspension upgrades when the factory system goes out, minimal lift but don't want to replace again, so quality the first time around.

Look forward to catching up with you guys at some point, thanks in advance for responses.

Hey there and welcome!

Javier's Gulf Coast Crawl shop in Spring Branch specializes in Land Cruisers
Check out L Seat located in Richmond for seat leather replacements
Timing belt is doable at home if you have some bananas under your mechanic belt. Not difficult
I'm not entirely sure you can get low quality suspension parts for Land Cruiser, but most are happy with OME lift components and then upgrade shocks and springs down the road depending on your weight needs

Welcome!

Welcome!
If you don't need a lift, OEM shocks are the cheapest decent quality there is

Quick update. Just turned 81k miles on the orig 12 year old timing belt and wanted to replace it before a spring break road trip. Ordered everything for the "while you're in there" repairs from Cr Dan and took a swing at it this weekend. Not bad at all, the threads here in the 100 section and a couple of related videos made it quite simple. Started Friday afternoon and would have been done by noon on Saturday if not for a couple of boneheaded minor mistakes that I had to stop and run to the dealer for. Made a simple tool to hold cams so I could replace seals and another to hold the crank for tightening, other than that, nothing at all that was difficult.

Good morning Houston. I live in the Jackson MS area and am searching for a 4runner. I was wondering if any of you are familiar with roadstersauto in Houston. They have several very clean looking, reasonably priced runners. Just trying to get an idea of their reputation. Any insight would be appreciated.
thanks

Never heard of the place, but exercise caution in buying Houston vehicles due to the frequent flooding that dumps loads of shoddy repair jobs in the used car market.

Been in Houston for awhile, but just bought my first rig a nice white 97 from a great guy in Birmingham, AL. One heck of a test drive back to H-Town, but my Bama rig did great.

Interested in comments on improving/ replacing stock suspension parts with minimal lift. What are the benefits/ trade offs?

welcome, i'd say look at getting the old man emu 861 and 862 springs with a fresh set of shocks. these are also called the "stock height" replacements but should net a minimal lift. the slee offroad site has some good info on the OME kits.

A suspension kit will give you better ride quality, more stability, better bump absorption, more cargo capacity, better flex on the trails and depending on what you use it can give you more height to run bigger tires. But it depends a lot on what you intend to do with that 80... Trail duties? Overland travel? Daily Driver? All? The only trade off I can see with swapping the OEM Suspension for a (good) aftermarket kit is the expense, as it will improve your truck's handling in a lot of aspects even if you go with a stock height and stock cargo capacity one.
