Well - I've figured out that the horns on the HJ61 do not use a relay. Straight power.
So that means my horns are faulty. Could someone who has the EPC look up what the Toyota part number is for the horns on my 1988 HJ61?
Thanks
Beau

Is there no sound at all? I've had to adjust mine to "bring it back to life". There is a screw on the back that you can adjust.

Yeh - there's no sound at all. It has slowly stopped working. I cleaned all the contacts in the steering wheel - so that's not the problem.
Is the screw in the back of the horn?

High pitch #86510-90K08
Low pitch #86520-90K07
Need one of each
If you get sticker shock at the dealer let me know, We have a box full of used ones for sale

The adjustment screw is on the back of the horn itself. I had one go out giving me a very high pitched horn so I needed to adjust the low pitch one to make it work again. That was over a year ago and a horn is ALWAYS in use in Central America.
If both are out I doubt it's the horn. My bets are on the contact described below.
The pin in back of the steering wheel DOES wear down and stop making contact. Have you checked for 12v at the horn when someone is pushing on it inside the truck? If you don't get 12v at the horn lead then I'd suspect the steering wheel contact. You MUST pull the steering wheel to see and access this particular contact (pin about 2" long IN THE STEERING COLUMN). It sits in the steering column and rides the back of the wheel as you turn corners. The steering shaft is one "wire" for the horn and this contact is the other. Without it you have an open circuit.

Alright!!! It's fixed. It was the contact between that pin and the back of the wheel. Thanks so much for that advice. I just put a small dab of solder on the pin and it makes contact now.
Thanks again.

I knew it!!
That pin is pretty cheap at Toyota. You probably want to get one coming 'cause the solder dab is not going to last too long.
I did mine about 2-3 months ago. The new pin is probably 1/4 - 1/2" longer than the worn one!
