Horn relays

I need some advice guys, my horn relay is from a 72', can I use an earlier style horn relay if I hook it up correctly? Any electrical issues I need to know of?

Toyota used the same relay from 10/69 to 6/80, it's $20, and it looks like your old one not new one.

If you've already bought the other one, give it a try. Relays are pretty simple and I can't imagine that the horn power changed a lot.

So I hooked the relay up and I'm getting a brrrph..followed by a full horn. I'm thinking it sounds like a switch issue. Can any one concur?

I'm not sure if the switch is in the ground leg or the power, but you must have figured it out since you got this far. Take the appropriate leg and short it to the battery positive or negative and see if it gives you a solid honk without the brrrph. If the problem goes away, it's the switch. If not, it's either wiring or the horns themselves.
