I've followed the wires from the horn all the way back to where they disappeared thru the firewall and I've not found anything that looks like it could be called a horn relay. My horn worked not when I got the truck and I bought a new set that look like something that fell off a Peterbilt. I mounted them to the underside of the hood using the same bolts that hold the windshield/hood latches on. When I hooked them to the wires that went to the non-functioning horn, they sounded very week, like a bicycle horn, but when I touched their wires directly to the battery, they sounded like the 4:15 was on time. Loooooud. So that tells me there is a voltage drop in the horn circuit. A bad horn relay? The one I can't find? There is hardly a wire on this thing that hasn't been spliced at least once. A new wiring harness is definitely in our future, but not quite yet, there is plenty of other things higher on the list. So does anyone have an idea about where my horn relay might be located? Does it necessarily have one?
Oh, the new horns arn't (arn't?) that powerful, wattage wise, just made with long tubes to make them sound louder. So I don't think they are so powerful as to overwhelm the horn relay if there is one. Thanks, rog

Rog,

Are the horns grounded with there own ground wire or do they depend on the mounting for ground? Sounds like a bad ground? Try running a ground wire to the battery, should wake up your horn!
