Turn Signal and steering column wiring for FJ45

Hopefully not starting a trend, my first day and I’m already asking questions!

It is quite a strange model made up of several different models and parts. It is an extended cab FJ45. This is something I believe is isolated to New Zealand. I’ve seen a few more for sale on Trademe.co.nz.

I think or at least the plates register it as a 73 FJ45

As guys do I took the whole thing apart. It rains a lot here so it’s taken me sometime to get it back together. Because of the sea and rain I’ve opted to use as much stainless steel as possible. Bolts and tubing outside structural are all stainless. The body pieces have been blasted galvanized then high zinc epoxied or powder coated. You put in the effort you don’t want to have it rust again.

SO my problem.

I’ve got to the point of putting the new wiring in and I’m using Tyco IP67 (waterproof) connectors which once you start using are great. The harness is a Painless 12 circuit. You can see from the image everything is in heat shrink already.
I have two bundles running down from the steering wheel. One I assume is the turn signals and horn. The other I believe is the high beam dimmer.
The reason for my question is, no diagram shows the same wires as are in this column. I’ve looked at every diagram I can find, wiring manual, or online forum and nothing. No photos, no breakdown. So I’ve taken the image and I hope someone can identify this for my prosperity and the users of this forum.
For easy sakes, Green bundle and Red Bundle. You’ll notice the nice Tyco plug and the seal mounted on the pins.

I also attached a photo of the column as a reference, if it is the correct one for this model. I would be greatly appreciated for anyone who can help.

Seen that one

I've seen this one. Still a few wires out.

Green and Red I know is the HORN.
Green and White This diagram reads as STOP, I've read this elsewhere
Green and Yellow Shows RIGHT, Checked elsewhere
Green and Black (?) Shows LEFT. I've seen it listed different

And these wires?
Green and Blue
Green and Orange
Green This does not show up until the headlight switch. I've also seen this associated with the HAZ light.

redneck I am

well I did a bit of process elimination. More like 6 hours with a voltmeter and my attempt at logic.

This is still assumption
Green White STOP
Green Red HORN
Green HAZ
Green Yellow RIGHT
Green Orange LEFT
Green Blue POWER or FLASHER
Green Black?

DO you think there is a LF,LR,RF,RR wire coming from this or are all Toyota's a single wire F and R?

I am also assuming the continuity of the circuit for the flasher travels through the column switch and directly to the turn signal. Not the turn signal wire through the flasher, if you know what I mean. A intermittent circuit before the switch causes the flashing.

Thanks so far.

Thanks Vitesse_6. So you would say that column is out of a 74 model?

It looks like at least a 73 and identical to my 74, If it werent raining and cold out at the moment I would wander out there and see where the wires went first hand, But its almost midnight here.
Sorry I couldnt help more.
Good luck

The 73-74 wiring harness are about as confusing as they get. All of the Turn, Marker and Flasher wiring runs through the Hazard switch. They then go into the turn signal switch on the column and also through the flasher, which is hidden above the column by the firewall, depending on what is supposed to be flashing.

Out of the Turn Signal Switch you should have 2 bundles of wires. The first should have 3 or 4 wires and should be from the High / Lov Beams and A Ground(#29). The second bundle should be from the turn signal switch (#29) of which they either travel to the hazard switch, lights, dash or the flasher. Unfortunately there isn't a wiring diagram for the inside of the column turn signal switch that I know of.

I would bet that you will have a very hard time getting the Painfull Harness to interface with the stock Turn Signal Switch but I have never done it so I could be wrong

Thanks for that Michael and Vitesse_6,

As mentioned I've done a bit of elimination. What I ultimately wanted to do was put up a post with the wires labeled on the photo so other can use it.

If anyone has 100% clarity on the connection of these colored wires please list them. Sure it will help me out but hopefully help future mud users.

Thanks in advance.....

Still looking for the 100% solution on the wire from the signal column.
