I got another here somewhere;)
You can ignore the elbow into the filter as its not for show.
The one piece bent tube has less chance of leaking:D

Hey, you make a lot of work. Its grate.

Here is my FJ70..... the snorkel is home made with a friend in fiber glass ;)

thanks for the pics Rosco...

nice job there Roland...

;p
the 'ram air' debate ... I'm no aerodynamics engineer, but I've read enough to understand that you need F1 - type speeds before intake manifold pressure is significantly increased by a forward facing air scoop ...

Have a look at the newer sport bikes........the ram air design of the intakes makes a measureable difference at high speeds;)

Nice job on the snorkel .........next one will be much faster:)

all i know is when i left the ram facing the wrong way after 4wd'ing one day, car really started to struggle above 70 odd kays/hr on the highway home. this was 3B, turbo, standard gearing and 35" claws mind you. have seen some safari snorkels built same lines as this one, like the nissan pathfinder (v6 petrol).

I can see having them turned back will have a vacuum effect at highway speed . I thought you only turned them backwards at offroad speeds.
Im not claiming there is a ram air effect but some air pressure would be better than none.

Hmmmmmm, we used to have those snorkles on our 75s, 80s and 105s because they were 1/2 the price of a Safari.
When I smashed the precleaner off 1 of mine, and fitted a Safari ram, (for about $65 at OL in Kal) I picked up over 20km/h in top speed in a 75srs. With the precleaner off, or the ram facing backwards, the speed was about the same as with the cyclonic (Donaldson type) precleaner on.

yeah, forgot to turn around after weekend 4wd trip. near to end of the track i busted a cv, which took a couple hours to make driveable again and thus forgot all about snorkel heads. it definately made a big difference

that looks awesome, man!

thank you for the compliment,

if this truck saw major highway driving then the tip would have been reversable but this is mostly just a bush / city truck...

like it has been said it is mostly around town (per here to what we have in texas) and mild wheelin. at the lower speeds its not gonna hurt it any. if anything it is drawing a cooler air so even tho the less pressure its a denser air charge.....

reguardless the customer is happy the builder is happy (so it seems seing as how he is showing off work) and its all good. looks great and servers its purpose.

I dont know about your city but 100kph is the norm on the freeway around here;)

It would be intersting to note the EGT with the snorkle facing each direction and the fuel economy.

his fuel economy is 800 km per tank, he just tested it.
his performance he is very happy with.
the EGTs dropped because of the turbo but i am not sure by how much of that is cooler air from outside the engine bay.
i know on my LJ78 when i had the snorkel facing forward no change in EGT, no change facing back wards but facing the windshield it dropped 50 degrees at highway speeds...
cheers

i can say from experience that a snorkel turned towards the back will not cause that difference,
i would suspect:
poor wheel bearing torque after birfield replacement
head wind
contaminated blocking the air flow
other damage than just the birfield
another mechanical reason for the poor performance.

the vacumm created at 70 km/hr would be negligible let alone dropping a top speed 30 km/hr

If a snorkle is facing the wrong way wouldnt it be lowering the air pressure inside the snorkle and the engine would have to work harder to draw more air in,not unlike high altitudes?

After all,we turbo to increase the pressure to cram more air into the cyl to improve efficiency.
