Anybody made a simple setup for an awning that comes off the side of your Cruiser? I have a few ideas, but haven't figured out a very quick way to attach to the truck at the luggage racks. I figured that I could use aluminum adjustable tents poles out on the end.

Damn Guys,

Thanks alot.... Great ideas and links. Now I just have to figure out which one is best and make it for my next trip.

I've got the camping/fishing fever oh so bad.... We have been fishing 3 out of the last 4 weeks and having a blast.

SSeaman,

Yes I need more ideas. Got any? I like the idea of the 4" pvc pipe holder for the awning. I would like to have a 10' X 12' tarp for the awning.

This is my first post here so hopefully I don't stuff it up:D

I know this is very late for your post, but here is my homemade awning.
The sewing part was the biggest hassle, the frame is actually bloody easy.

This is ver1 as on the day I took these photos the wind folded the whole thing over the roof.
Currently I'm on ver3.
To open takes 46sec and to close about 1min 40sec.
I've got an opening and closing vid on my phone........ someday on youtube:whoops:

Here is a photo of it packed up in it's sleeve, legs and all.

Legs and braces are all 30x30x1.2 alu angles, when packed up together with the material, they fit into each other (>>>) and have a very small profile.

I modified a canopy from a 12x12 pop up sport shade after the frame bit the dust. I don't have any photos of it yet, but I simply sewed some velcro straps on one end to secure to the roof rack, then use three adjustable poles with guy lines to support the middle and outside of it. It's quick and easy to put up and stows away easily inside of my LC.
